    Psychotherapy | Judith Staley

Chartered Clinical Psychologist Portsmouth & Southsea

    Method of Working

I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy, incorporating Relational Cultural Therapy (RCT). RCT emphasise the centrality of the relationship between the patient and the psychotherapist in the healing process. RCT also emphasises the role of culture, and developments in the understanding of the neuropsychological aspects of psychotherapy. (That is, understanding how psychotherapy works to change the brain and nervous system.)

I usually see prospective patients for an initial session that can last up to one and a half hours. During the initial session, I judge whether I think that psychodynamic psychotherapy would be helpful, and I answer questions about the process of psychotherapy. If a prospective patient and I agree to work together, I arrange sessions on a regular basis, at least once a week.

If I think that a different kind of treatment would be more beneficial, I explain what kind of treatment I think would suit the person best. If a patient and I agree to work together, I write a letter to the patient outlining things like place and times of meeting, confidentiality, my fees, and arrangements for cancelled sessions and holidays.

Please visit my Recommended Reading page for suggestions that could be of help to you.

I see patients in central Southsea. To make an appointment with me, or to discuss fees, or whether psychotherapy would be a good idea for you, please contact me at 02392 756237.
